Tai Chi Chuan was created in the Chen village on the banks of the Yellow river in Henan province about 600 years ago, and has been passed down to the present day.

Chen style Tai Chi contains both hard and soft, it can be fast or slow, defensive or offensive, neutralising or overpowering. Using the mind to cultivate Qi through abdominal breathing and Chan si jin (silk reeling). This creates tremendous power and self defence capabilities, not to mention good health and well being.

Chen Tai Chi contains strikes using the shoulder, elbow, hand, palm and fist etc, leg techniques such kicking, sweeping, stamping and using the knees. There are also throws, jumps and Chin Na (joint locking techniques).

There are two main forms in Chen Tai Chi the first is called Yi Lu, there are a few different variations of this form depending on the teacher ranging from 64 steps, 76 steps, or 83 steps the second form is called Er Lu or Pao Chui (Cannon Fist).

Along with the two traditional forms there are some shortened simplified routines based on the first form 18, 19 and 36 step.
There are also many weapon forms such as straight sword, broadsword, and spear, spring and autumn broadsword and double weapons. Other training includes various types of push-hands and two-man weapon drills
